Since 2016 · River Road, Austin

Nine years, four people, and about forty items we've actually used ourselves.

Vexnaros started as one storefront-and-yard unit selling the things a household actually runs out of — a rake handle, a boot scraper, a decent pair of gloves — and it has stayed close to that size on purpose. We didn't set out to be the biggest home and garden goods catalogue in Austin. We set out to be the one where every item on the shelf has been picked up, tested, and argued about by someone who works here.

Who runs this

A small storefront, not a chain

Vexnaros is a small, independently run home and garden goods shop trading as Vexnaros at vexnaros.com, based at 45 River Road, Büro 5, Austin, Texas 26765, in the United States. It is a catalogue business in the plainest sense of the word — a single storefront-and-yard unit, one set of shelves, and a website that lets you look before you drive over or send an inquiry instead. There is no second location, no franchise arrangement, and no larger parent chain standing behind the name. What you see on this site is the shop.

The business has traded under that name at that address since 2016. Nine years is long enough that the owner has stopped guessing which items last and started knowing, because he's watched customers bring back the ones that didn't.

What we actually do

We sell about forty items, and we check every one of them by hand before it goes on the shelf

Vexnaros sells practical goods for the home, the yard and the plot behind the house — everyday fixings, garden tools, protective gear for outdoor work, and simple hand tools that don't need a manual. The catalogue is inquiry-only: a visitor reads an item's specification on this site, then calls, emails, or fills in the inquiry form to ask about it. There is no cart, no checkout, and no payment taken through this website. A price shown here is a starting price basis, confirmed by a person before anything is agreed.

Before an item earns a place on the shelf, someone at the shop has used it themselves or watched a customer use it for a season. That's the "checked by hand" claim made plain: a lopper gets test-cut on a branch out back, a hammer gets swung, a glove gets worn for an afternoon. Items that come back broken get pulled from the list rather than reordered — the folding pruner mentioned in our product notes is the clearest example, dropped after coming back with a snapped pivot pin twice in two years.

The sourcing method

How an item earns a place on this shelf

Four steps, the same for a $9 utility knife as for a $189 raised bed kit.

  1. Someone here uses it first

Before an item is stocked, a person on staff has put it to work — in the yard, on the workbench, or around the house — not just read the manufacturer's spec sheet.

  2. It goes out with a handful of customers

New stock runs alongside the shop's regulars for a season. If two or three people mention the same fault, the item doesn't get reordered.

  3. Each unit is checked before it's shelved

Blade edges, weld seams, handle fit and stitching get a hand check on arrival — not a sample from the case, every unit.

  4. It stays only if it keeps earning its place

A high return rate removes an item from the catalogue, regardless of how well it sold before the fault turned up.

The four of us

Four people, no call centre

Vexnaros runs on four people out of the one unit on River Road. The owner handles buying decisions and answers the phone himself most afternoons — if you call and get him, you're talking to the person who decided the raised bed kit and the wheelbarrow belonged on the same forty-item list. A second staff member manages the yard stock and loads anything too large to hand-carry, from the wheelbarrow to the cedar planter boxes. A third checks incoming stock against the sourcing steps above before anything reaches the shelf, and a fourth handles inquiries that come in by email and through this site, including the chat widget and the inquiry form.

We're not staffed for a call queue, and we won't pretend to be. If the line is busy, leave a message or use the form — someone from that same small group will call back, not a rotating shift of strangers.
